Taking a knee is a very controversial subject in America right now and it has captured  the attention of everybody. Colin Kaepernick, a football player for the 49er’s, started taking a knee during the National Anthem before his football games. This has brought up many different topics, one being racism and police brutality. Colin Kaepernick began taking a knee as a form of protest. His protest brings awareness to the racism and racial inequality in America.

The other topic is being unpatriotic. Many believe that it is disrespectful to the flag and to the country’s history not to stand during the National Anthem.

Taking a knee has spread to other NFL teams and to other sports. Some of the other sports include soccer and baseball. In soccer Megan Rapinoe was the first woman to take a knee. In baseball Bruce Maxwell was the first player to take a knee. In the NHL J.T. Brown was the first player to protest racial violence by holding his fist up in the air.
